Beachside Wellness Retreat

In the past few years, Canggu area has invent itself as a hotspot for wellness retreat in Bali with growing restaurants offering healthy food and yoga studios. Despite the rapid development in the area, Canggu is still far away from the hustle and bustle ambience of the crowded Kuta and Seminyak area. A good place to seek a quieter ambience yet it isn’t far away from the airport of just around 10 kilometers, compared to Ubud for example. And COMO Uma Canggu is located just perfect at the main road leading to Echo Beach, one of the best surfing points in Bali.

The new COMO Uma Canggu is the latest addition to COMO properties in Bali, launched in February 2018. The brand COMO is identical with wellness lifestyle with other two properties – COMO Uma Ubud and COMO Shambala Estate – offer a serene oasis of tropical greenery in a secluded property in Ubud, COMO Uma Canggu successfully mixed a hip beach vibe with the brand’s signature wellness concept.

COMO Uma Canggu occupies around one hectare of land and hosting five residence buildings hosting 52 rooms, 55 one and two-bedroom residences, and 12 three-bedroom penthouses. And horizontal to the shoreline, there’s also a chic beach club and surf shop. All is well designed and everything seems perfectly in place with luxe minimalist feel a’la COMO. To get this feel, the resort involves three architects and designers: Trevor Hillier, a landscape architect specializing in tropical South East Asian climates; Koichiro Ikebuchi, Japanese interior architect with sensitive approach to nature and a deep respect for cultural authenticity; and Milan-based designer Paola Navone who has been designing products for numerous leading brands, including Driade, Gervasoni, Guzzini, Poliform and Armani Casa. Navone has worked extensively in Southeast Asia and her recent collaborations with the COMO Group include COMO Point Yamu in Phuket, Thailand, and COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach.

The highlight of the resort is off course the huge 200 sqm duplex penthouse. The penthouse has two rooms below and one main room upstairs. It’s noteworthy that each room has equally spacious bathroom with combination of freestanding tubs and fitted ‘jet spray’ tubs. However, the penthouse’s master bedroom on the top floor is certainly a favorite, the room connects directly to the balcony with a 10-metre private pool, leafy decking area with its iconic arched openings with panoramic ocean view. The penthouse style is a contemporary, with high ceiling and lots of white and full-length window that allows plenty of natural light to come in and warm the mood. Downstairs, the living room is also big enough host a small party in it. The penthouse has its own kitchen and 24-hour butler service.

“The penthouse is ideal for family but turns out it often booked by couple on honeymoon,” says Lucia Denok, COMO Hotels and Resorts' regional director of marketing communications. But don’t get wrong, all other rooms are designed with the same detail and feel of a five stars service.

Although the rooms are comfortable, there are plenty of activities to explore outside, after all COMO promote active lifestyle. For those who like swimming, COMO Uma Canggu has a beautiful 115-meter lagoon pool, the pool also helps makes the property feels more spacious. The resort fitness centre offers twice-daily yoga and pilates. Classes range from hatha, the fast-paced rocket yoga, through to yogalates with certified trainers. The resort gym Jungle Sport’ sessions will also be available here for the first time in Bali. This TRX-style exercise uses suspension equipment to tone and build muscles, as well as provide an extensive cardio workout. And being COMO, there's the COMO Shambhala Spa. Here eight treatment rooms – including two double rooms for couples treatments deliver – Asian-inspired therapies.

Veteran surfers will be satisfied with the variation of waves found nearby the resort, while novices can learn the foundations under an expert eye on calmer rides. Tropicsurf also offer day trips to nearby Medewi, a rocky cove with some of Bali's longest breaks, and Padang Padang, which has a left-hand barrel that draws the same of the world's best surfers. Away from the waves, COMO Uma Canggu will offer guests a range of cultural and adventure activities across southern and central Bali, including guided temple visits by the sea, jungle trekking, canoeing expeditions and traditional village walks. Make sure to check attractive package from the resort combining stay and activities.

COMO Beach Club

For dining, Glow is the resort’s healthy ‘grab and go’ bar for fresh, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, snacks and tasty salads, while the main restaurant at COMO Beach Club is cool place to dine with a modern twist on the traditional surf shack architecture. The beach club focuses on wood-fired dishes with seafood a key feature on the menus, each is very well presented, delicious, and healthy. The beach club, which is also open for public, is also a great place to hangout all day or waiting for the sunset while enjoying a variation of mocktails and cocktails. It also has its own 25 meters lap pool, with poolside seating and comfortable swing-chairs. If you happen to stay more than a couple days and looking for another place to hang out, next-door is the La Brisa Bali.

When the evening falls, after you had your dinner either at the beach club or order the in-room service, one of the best ways to spend the rest of the night having a warm conversation on what a great day you had and planning on tomorrow’s adventure with your spouse, family, or love ones while dipping your foot in the pool.
