Combining robustness of a BMW X model with the athletic potency of a coupé, the BMW Group Indonesia just launched the new BMW X2 that aimed to be appealing to a younger crowd. The BMW X2 sDrive18i M Sport X that was showcased comes with two colors, Galvanic Gold and Misano Blue that only available for the model. The car positioned above the BMW X1 and below its bigger brother the BMW X3. The one with the yellow color is more striking and sportier, as one can see its resemblance like an M4 with the Austin Yellow color. The car exterior design is a refreshing one from the German premium automaker, it combines the refinement of BMW with the youthful spirit at its best. There are many notable design touched in the model, for the first time in a modern BMW, there is a new roundel on the C-pillars as well as a new styling of the kidney grille, with an outline that is wider at its base than at its top. The BMW roundel on the C-pillars invokes a design cue much admired in classic BMW coupes such as the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.
The model blends design elements from the sporty BMW M with the robust BMW X families, some exterior parts of the car are inspired from rally racing such as the add-on parts, decals and paint finishes in contrasting colors. It features a very sporty bumper styling, rugged side-skirts and the aggressive rear-bumper with integrated diffusers. Completing the sporty look is the M rear spoiler to strengthen the character at the rear end and 19-inch style 722 M light-alloy wheels.
The car also boasts a refreshing new design inside the cabin, it is a different and sportier approach to the cabin design. The cabin of the gold car features a combination of Micro Hexagon fabric/Alcantara Anthracite combination upholstery contrast stitching in Yellow rather than leather that matches the gold paint on the outside.
Just like any BMW vehicle, the cockpit offers spot on driving positions and an ergonomic design. A new operation system also enables smooth operating capability through iDrive Controller, voice assistant, touch control, and BMW Gesture Control, all of which are integrated with a 6.5-inch monitor screen. Surprisingly the car has quite decent legroom headroom and legroom for the passengers in the back, it also capable to be a very practical car as it has a boot capacity of 470 liters.
The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.5 three-cylinder engine that the brand claimed able to provide the right balance of torque and fuel efficiency. The engine produces 140 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque with fuel consumption of 15,9 l/km and 143 g/km of CO2 emissions based on the EU test cycle. The engine is mated with the latest 7-speed dual-clutch steptronic transmission and the car can move from 0-100 km/hour in 9.6 seconds. BMW’s predictive gear shift technology is also available for this unit, that claimed will help in creating smooth gear shifts as well as efficient fuel consumption.
The car will be available at all Authorized BMW Dealers from 1 November 2018 at a price of Rp 839 million off-the-road. Every vehicle includes BMW Service Inclusive which covers free routine maintenance for 5 years or 60.000 km, whichever comes first, and a 36-month warranty without mileage limits. The car also will become a niche model from the brand as there will be limited numbers sold.
